The Original Tree Label (New Zealand) Has Gone Global Via Digital Downloading Sites
The original Tree Records Label was launched in New Zealand in May 1969 with the release of an original blues recording made by it's composers, The Supernatural Blues Band. Rejected by all 4 Major Label Firms for being too long (3.55 minutes) and non-commercial, Producer Dene Kellaway who was at the time the Publishing Editor of Groove Newspaper created his own Label when Philips offered him a Distribution deal. Needless to say, "Out In The Cold" sold out on it's first day of issue, and again the next day too.
What made this 'non-commerically, too long', blues song sell so well during the latter days of the British Beat Scene? The 5 piece band were the 'darlings' of Wellington's Victoria University Campus.
Dene Kellaway went on to produce and release another 4 Singles in the dying stages of 1969, all of which sold well and established Tree Records as a force to be reckoned with. In March 1970 Tree was made a Limited Liability Company with it's distinctive Trade Mark registered.
By the 1990's several artists Tree Records recorded had spread their wings and toured overseas, building strong reputations as artists. They included Rick Bryant, Midge Marsden and Peter Caulton, the latter being Nominated for 6 Grammy Awards for a Country Album he recorded in Texas, USA.
In 1996, Tree Records issued a 2 CD Compilation of all the Singles it had released on vinyl and named them "Kiwi Made Music". Then in September 2007, at the suggestion by the Chinese singer Wing, Tree Records signed up with CD Baby in America and issued these 2 CD Titles on iTunes, Tradebit, Napster and a few more Digital Download
Sites.
Expectations were kept low and Tree Records are both surprised and delighted at the successes so far in this new medium, not forgetting the hard copies of the CD CD Baby have moved as well.
While the majority of the Titles in Tree's own Top 10 Chart based on actual digital sales are no surprise, some are. The predictable successes of Random Thoughts, After-Glo and Haystack are mixed with the surprises like Lianne's "Mississippi Paddleboat" and Dene Kellaway's "If I Didn't Have A Dime".
Tree Records are currently working on creating physical presences in America, Australia, Britain and Europe and will be signing up overseas (non-New Zealanders) artists in the near future.
Tree Records records top quality artists regardless of genre and has, to date, released music in the genres of pop, rock, progressive country, country, blues, folk ballads and classical guitar.

SUPER-D ONE STOP IS SERVING TREE IN AMERICA WELL
The American marketplace is already active, largely thanks to the ever performing crowd at CD Baby. Super-D One Stop is already shipping product around America for us and they cover ALL STATES.
Tree Records likes the small stock-holding, 'no refunds' selling they are using, which is out of step with most American Distributors who want 2000 units and charge pellet rental. After 3 Months you have to find another Distributor and do it all over again. Not at Super-D. They are operating more like the New Zealand marketplace where the Retailer takes the risks and therefore only orders what they know they can sell.
It is this method that has seen Tree Records gain the unusual status of "never found in the Bargain Bins" and New Zealand Second Hand Dealers will tell you, finding an original Tree release is like finding Hens' Teeth. Two leading Wellington Retailers say they have NEVER seen a copy of The Supernatural Blues Band's famous "Out In The Cold" Single and yet it sold massively in Wellington at the time of it's release. - May 20, 2008
DEDICATED ON-LINE WAREHOUSE WEBSITE TO COME
Tree Records has come a long way in 14 months. No longer "dipping their toes in the waters", Tree has secured a Domain Name for the sole purpose of setting up an On-Line Warehouse
so Record Stores everywhere in the World have a One-Stop Site

It is planned to operate from one Warehouse based in New Zealand because NZ Post are one of the fastest Deilvery Services around and can get small Orders to just about anywhere in 7 days. The Service will operate with PayPal, Credit Cards or Bank Drafts, which ever payment method suits each individual Retailer. It is hoped to have this operating before 2009 has ended but the Registration Form is already up at www.treelabel.net
