The Official Website Of Tree Records
TREE RECORDS was established in New Zealand in May 1969 and incorporated in March 1970 with the registered Trade Mark seen top left of every page on this Site.
The Original Tree 45rpm Label used for TREE-3 to TREE-8
The Second Label and sleeve designs from Tree-9 to TREE-17
Today Tree Records is a worldwide Label offering a range of material on hard copy Compact Discs and in the modern mp3 Digital format.
Presently the Tree Records Catalogue is mostly the recordings of New Zealand artists but that is already changing dramatically as the Label moves into the World marketplace, working to become established in Australia, America, Great Britain and Europe.
Tree Records recognizes the changes in the way music is played and produced. The days of a Label signing up Artists and hiring a studio, controlling the material recorded, the finished sound and packaging have passed. Today's Artists are doing it all themselves and some are extremely good at the whole process of creating an Album.
What they lack is the marketing and promotional skills a Record Label lives by and Tree will be more an equal partner with today's Artists than a controlling force.
Tree Records are probably in a better position to embrace the changes than most Labels simply because Tree gave it's Artists a sizable input into what they recorded, and when. The "A" side of a Single had to be approved (as apposed to chosen) by Tree but the '"B" side was totally the Artist's choice, hence there are so many as-good-as, if not better, "B" sides to Tree's past releases.
These changes are already in place and the first Artist to be signed by Tree since 1977, is a case in point. Bob Keeton wrote the material, recorded it and released his first Album as a CDR to save money. Tree
Records gave the Album a title and re-packaged it and issued it as a Digital Release to iTunes, Napster and Tradebit plus 12 other Sites, as an mp3 file.
Former Tree Artist, Laurence Cooper, from Gutbucket and Tapestry Bands, has also moved to a solo career, having written all the songs on his Album "Phosphorecense" which Tree also released the same year (November 27, 2007) as a Digital Release through the same mp3 Sites as Bob Keeton's "Stronger" Album was posted.
UK artist Chris Adams joined Tree Records in June, 2008 and Canadian artist Istvan signed on in December 2008. More artists are
being signed by Tree at the moment. New Artists to be released by
Tree so far in 2009 include Istvan and Johnny Croot & Friends plus a
Chris Adams & Bob Keeton Charity EP which will donate all earnings to Natural Disaster Funds as stated on this Website all the time.
The Artists signed to Tree Records will continue to be given a very loose rein so their creative juicys can flow..the perfect formula to produce top quality music.
Tree Records has come a very long way since releasing The Supernatural Blues Band's "Out In The Cold" in May 1969 and is definately no longer a New Zealand only Label, but an International Label with it's Head Office in New Zealand. The Internet and modern technology has made all this possible.

Tree Record's Founder,
Dene Kellaway (1969)
The Supernatural Blues Band
were the first artists Tree Records recorded.
"Out In The Cold" was a
huge hit and also the first
New Zealand written blues
song ever recorded.

CD BABY IS ONE OF TREE RECORDS' PARTNERS FOR HARD COPY COMPACT DISC SALES
CD BABY was created by Derek Sivers just over 10 years ago to help his friends sell their own released Albums. Today CD Baby is responsible for the success stories of thousands of Artists with their dedicated efforts in creating the quality mp3 Files. But Tree has out-grown the limited reach CD Baby has for Digital Deliveries so
The Orchard has taken on the Digital side of things and CD Baby, still the best at exposing new artists to the world, will concentrate on selling the hard copy Compact Discs Globally for Tree.
